instead of buying each other gifts for valentine's, we decided we'd put the money towards something to enjoy together. which resulted in tickets to see wicked in birmingham. i was ecstatic! craig is a loving supportive husband so he was excited. i had only seen one broadway show which was probably ten or so years ago. i saw lion king and absolutely loved it but have been dying to see another ever since. craig had never seen a broadway show but enjoys plays... or more so, he is a good sport and is happy to do something that makes me happy. so off we went to birmingham.
birmingham itself is an older city. a bit more on the industrial side and has some pretty run down parts. of course those are the areas that intrigue me most. i'm always fascinated to see old, weathered homes. it makes me wonder about their story and the lives of those who have lived there. but, house seeing is not what we were there for of course!
due to a minor wardrobe malfunction we spent some time in the mall before the show and weren't able to make it to dinner before wicked. to be honest, i enjoyed our little adventure. and ihop after the show was seriously delicious. well, craig's pancakes were anways. i ordered crepes which were good, but i swear his pancakes tasted like the best pancakes i've ever eaten. or maybe it's just because things always seem to taste better when they're on his plate. who knows.
anyways, before the delicious pancakes was the amazing show. let me be ridiculous for a moment and say this, it was wickedly awesome! haha okay, dorky moment over. (for a second anyways.) i loved it all. the music, the costumes, the energy, the story, the humor.... it was incredible. i admire the talent of those on stage and every once in a while wish i had the guts and talent to get up there front and center. but i don't, so i sit comfortably in my chair and admire.
i love my man for so many reasons. i love that he happily takes me on adventures to enjoy things together even if it may not be on his wish list. i love that he fully soaks up the moments and relishes in the vacation of it all. buying popcorn during the show, spending $40 on a t-shirt for me. (i mean really, who spends $40 on a t-shirt? us. we laughed after we bought it at how absurd it is to charge so much... especially after they charge you an arm and a leg for each ticket. but, hey, we are the crazy ones that bought the t-shirt! and you better believe i rocked it all the next day. and the next. and the next. craig came home from scouts tonight as i was wearing it again. he smiled and said "you really like that wicked shirt don't ya?" why yes, i sure do!) i'm so happy to have a best friend who likes to see my happy and who is so fun to experience all these incredible moments with.
the next day we went to see the temple. it was closed for maintenance so we weren't able to go in but we still wanted to see it. it was tiny. teeeeny tiny. but still beautiful. it's always so peaceful to be around the temples. i love that feeling!
after a few stops (including craig's first burrito experience at chipotle) we were on our way back home. i love our time in the car. i do not however love the actual driving, i get a bit car sick. but i love sitting there with my hubs. listening to music, chatting about this and that and some more of this. i love that he likes me to get cozy and fall asleep. which i do, and it's so relaxing. and i love even more waking up to my husband on the search of a frozen yogurt shop i had spotted on the way up to birmingham. he is so good to me.
we love our adventures and having our journeys. however, each and every time we are away we are so happy to be back home. there's something so special about our home. not because it's beautifully decorated or ideally located, but just because it's our home. it's cozy and warm and it's the place for our little family. can't wait for our next fun adventure!!

I love the "little" details you always seem capture. Wardrobe malfunction, what you ordered and ate, wearing the t-shirt for days...those are the memories you will die over when you read this blog in a year(or ten years). I want to be better at that!
ReplyDeleteaw, i've always wanted to see that wicked play! so much fun!
